Congratulations to Marita Cheng, final year Mechatronics and Computer Science student at the Melbourne School of Engineering, who is the 2012 Victorian Young Australian of the Year.

Marita is the founder of Robogals, an organisation dedicated to encouraging girls to pursue careers in engineering and technology.  Marita’s passion for enthusing secondary school girls to pursue an education and career in engineering and science through fun and engaging workshops and activities, has seen Robogals grow to 17 branches spanning Australia, New Zealand and the UK.

Marita is a national finalist in the 2012 Young Australian of the Year Award. This award celebrates the achievements of outstanding young Australians, aged 16-30, who have made a considerable contribution to their communities.
