Professor Min Chong

Professor Joseph Klewicki

Congratulations to Professor Min Chong and Professor Joseph Klewicki, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, who have been elected as Fellows of the American Physical Society (APS).

Members of the APS are eligible for nomination and election to Fellowship. Nominations are evaluated by a committee of an appropriate discipline division of the APS and successful candidates are elected by APS Council. The fellowship is a distinct honour indicating recognition by one’s professional peers.

Nominated by the Divison of Fluid Dynamics Professor Chong has been recognised for his contributions to: the development of series-expansion approaches to Navier-Stokes equations; the use of topology in the study of flow patterns in turbulence; and to our understanding of the structure of jets, wakes, wall turbulence and hot-wire anemometry.

Professor Klewicki was also nominated by the Division of Fluid Dynamics and was recognised for his insightful studies revealing the properties and scaling of turbulent boundary layers over a large Reynolds number range, and for developing and sharing with the research community unique flow facilities to carry out such studies.
