MSE welcomes Professor Paul Webley
News — By Jennifer Thomas on January 16, 2012 11:03 amProfessor Paul Webley, former Head of Department of Chemical Engineering at Monash University, has joined the Melbourne School of Engineering’s Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, where he will embark on a professorial teaching and research role in the Department specialising in Adsorption Technology. His research will also include work in the CO2CRC, as Discipline Leader in Adsorption.
Professor Webley’s role will complement the work being done by Professor Sandra Kentish, Discipline Leader in Membrane Technology and Professor Geoff Stevens, Discipline Leader in Solvent Absorption at the CO2CRC and Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.
Professor Webley completed his PhD in Chemical Engineering at MIT in 1990 and was Director of the MIT School of Chemical Engineering Practice at the Dow Chemical Company in Midland, MI. He has worked for Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (APCI) and as a senior research engineer specialising in adsorption technology, before joining Monash University as a senior lecturer. While at Monash, Professor Webley founded the Adsorption Engineering Laboratory.
Key research interests are in adsorption science and engineering spanning nano-adsorbent synthesis, characterisation and testing, through to adsorption process design and implementation. Professor Webley will occupy a new purpose-built lab on the 4th floor of the Chemistry East Wing, which will be built in the first half of this year.
