Exhibition celebrates leading Australian engineer

The University of Melbourne’s Grainger Museum is profiling iconic engineer and architect and father of composer Percy Grainger, John Harry Grainger.

The exhibition, Life under a shadow: John Harry Grainger, Architect and Civil Engineer, will run at the museum throughout 2012.

Born and trained in London, John Grainger travelled to Australia in 1877 and went on to design some of the country’s most well-loved structures and buildings, including Melbourne’s Princes Bridge and Georges Building, the swing bridge at Sale and the Fremantle Town Hall.
